"The hard fact is that e-learning took off before people really knew how to use it." Does this quote from the now 4-year old University of Pennsylvania study, The Thwarted Innovation, still ring true? In large part, it does. In this podcast, Dr. Rossett, Professor of Educational Technology at San Diego State University, discusses how to meet training and performance challenges by broadening our definition of e-learning and encourages listeners to customize approaches to meet their specific needs.

The possibilities for e-learning are vast, and yet many people select an approach (virtual classroom, PowerPoint, mobile, etc.) out of habit; they do the same thing they did last week, last month or last year. What's needed is a richer understanding of all the options available, the "big tent of e-learning", and a systematic approach to selecting the right tool for the job. In this podcast, Dr. Rossett provides an organized view of the "big tent" which comprises:
- Learning
- Knowledge and performance support
- Assessments and guidance
